Overview of the Protocol

  The protocol is transmission control procedure to transfer the messages between devices.
As the chart below indicates, the RCS divides protocols into two categories: the application oriented upper layer (Layer 3 and above in the OSI basic reference model), and the transmission medium oriented lower layer (Level 2 and lower in the OSI basic reference model).
The OSI basic reference model is made out of these seven layers.
The application layer at the top regulates functions which control information management, the presentation layer regulates the functions which control data representation formats, the session layer regulates the functions which control conversational data units, the transport layer regulates functions involved in end to end information transmission, the network layer regulates the functions which control routing to relay nodes, the data link layer regulates the functions which control the connection between adjacent nodes, and finally the lowest layer, the material layer, regulates the electronic and mechanic terms.
