As one of ASN.1 data types, "UTF8string" is specified in the data dictionary. But I found that the tag number of "UTF8string" is not described in the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards). Is there a document or a standard which describes tag and representation format of "UTF8string"data type? |
![]() |
The data type of ASN.1 is described in the JIS standard "JIS X5605-1:1998" which corresponds to "ISO/IEC 8824-1:1995". The tag of the "UTF8string" type is not specified in "ISO/IEC 8824-1:1995". UNIVERSAL 12 UTF8String |
Message Set |

I think that different road management system deals with different kinds of messages. Would it not be difficult to standardize message sets? |
![]() |
We are standardizing messages by utilizing the concept of "components" and thereby allowing the messages to have multiple usesand thereby making the message sets applicable to many different road management systems. |
![]() |
What would be the message set corresponding to the non-DATEX-ASN protocol, e.g. SNMP? |
![]() |
While SNMP is used in the VICS and ETC, the usage of DATEX-ASN for center-to-roadside communication is recommended in the Road Communication Standard. |
Protocol |
![]() |
Although you state that the road communication standard is intended for administrator, the protocol for open access application is also prescribed. Isn't there an inconsistency? |

Isn't it an ordinary case that SNMP is used as a protocol for network management? |
![]() |
Some road management systems use protocols other than SNMP+MIB for the network management purpose. Since it is difficult to specify the protocol for the network management, it is out of the scope in the road communication standard. |

For center-to-center communications, DATEX-ASN is the only protocol in the road communication standard. How do you deal with CORBA which becomes popular recently? |
![]() |
We are paying attention to CORBA, and going to investigate the incorporation of CORBA into our standard if necessary. |

What value is assigned to the OBJECT IDENTIFIER corresponding to the "endApplication-message-id " in the DATEX-ASN? |
![]() |
Concrete value is not assigned because the tree of endApplication-message is not registered in ISO. |

Some systems such as www-based road information providing system have been in operation currently. What is the difference between the road communication standard and HTML? |
![]() |
HTML is the description language of the application in the system. On the other hand, the road communication standard regulates rules of communication in the system to exchange data with application correctly. |
![]() |
You described that the cost of the system development increases if the road communication standard is not applied. However, the cost does not necessarily increase indiscriminately in case of all. I think the cost decrease and the quality improvement to be achieved by using the technology of de-facto in system construction. |
![]() |
The cause of the cost increase is DD and MS which relates to software which has the majority of the cost from the protocol with the de-facto technology. Therefore, software for conversion is needed if these are not standardized, and it causes the cost increase. |

You described that the enclosure by the vender will be caused if the road communication standards are not adopted. However, the enclosure is not necessarily indiscriminately caused. It is possible to avoid the enclosure of the specific vender by clarifying with specifications and by using the de-facto communication method. |
![]() |
The cause of the enclosure is DD and MS which relates to software which has the majority of the cost from the protocol with the de-facto technology. Therefore, if these are not standardized, the cost increases by the enclosure by the vender who has the know-how of the software of the existing system. |

The procedure and the technique to reflect the problem which occurred when the road communication standard is applied to the system are necessary. |

The problems and an uncertain points concerning the road communication standards are accepted in this Site. Please inquire by "Contact us". |

Does the road communication standards aim at sharing the specification of common soft making and the road side equipment? |
![]() |
No, the purpose of the road communication standards is standardization of the communication standard which improves "Interconnectivity", "Interoperability" "Interchangeability" of the system. |
