Name
Landscape Design Normative Case Studies(Rivers, Coasts, and Harbors)
Overview
This collection of case studies is intended as a reference for planning and designing public works projects in the fields of rivers, coasts, and harbors that take landscape and design into consideration, and to provide reference for the concepts and technical information.
The case studies, which can be used as a reference for the design of public spaces, are collected in this report, including the following information: location, administrator, designer, builder, year of construction, scale of structure and space, etc., design background, features of design and outstanding points of landscape design, location map showing the relationship with the surrounding topography and streetscape, drawings of the entire structure or space and its components, and photographs. The collection includes drawings and photographs of the entire structure or space and its components.
The following procedure was used to create this case study collection.
First, a list of candidate normative examples was compiled from among structures and spaces related to the river, coastal, and harbor fields in the modern, contemporary, and early modern periods. The structures and spaces included in this list were those created in Japan, and those that have already been evaluated as excellent or standard designs. Next, the “Editorial Subcommittee of Civil Engineering Design” (Chairman: Osamu Shinohara, Professor of National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies), established within the Landscape and Design Committee of JSCE, selected examples from the candidate list to be published in the case study collection.
