Mitigation is an English word meaning “mitigation,” but recently it has come to mean “various measures to mitigate the impact of human activities, such as construction projects, on the natural environment,” and mitigation associated with public works projects is widely used in Japan. This document outlines the social background and technology of mitigation, and introduces examples of its implementation in Japan for various projects such as roads, rivers, and dams.
