Overview of River Division

 The River Division is developing technological standards and technologies on rivers to support river projects of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and municipal governments. It is studying methods that are feasible in all rivers in Japan for investigating channel designs and for maintaining river control facilities, and is developing monitoring and analytical methods. Technological advice is also given on individual river projects of the regional development bureaus of the ministry, etc. Flood monitoring, disaster surveys, and hydraulic experiments are conducted for technological investigations, and the results are reflected in standards developed.

Disaster Investigation・Technical Support

 The River Devision immediately sends researchers to afflicted areas affected by floods, earthquakes, and other disaster coorperating with Public Works Research Institute, National Research and Development Agency. The researchers investigate the cause of the damage to river facilities, mainly river levees, and assist technically in restoration.
