The River Environment Division seeks to restore ecosystems, ties between humans and water, to harmonize human activities with the natural environment, and to make the country a place where people can live active lives while both enjoying the blessings and respecting the power of nature. To build the foundation for implementing these policy targets, we are conducting research on the following themes: 1) the effects of human activities on rivers, lakes and watersheds, and associated prediction and evaluation methods; 2) technologies and techniques for protecting and restoring river environments and watersheds; 3) the relationship between people and water; and 4) the method for providing of information infrastructure and policy tools.
