Smooth Wide Area Evacuation from Urban Fires Caused by an Earthquake (FY2009-2011)

The simulation program about wide area evacuation was developed supposing the case where a fire breaks out after an earthquake. To simulate the evacuation, we made models for road network, collapsed building, fire building and evacuees or evacuation behavior. In these models, evacuees decide when they leave from their houses; where they go; which way they take in consideration of a fire situation, a road blockade by collapsed buildings, and a road congestion.
By using this simulation program, it can contribute to promotion of the evacuate safety measures against urban fires caused by an earthquake.

Study on Assessment Model of Future Urban and Regional Visions in the Depopulating Period (FY2009-2011)

The purpose of this research is to develop we try to construct a technological system for assessing urban policy by developing indexes to evaluate options that had been presented in advance concerning prospective images in cities and urban policy, and a technique for calculating the indexes from the viewpoint of sustainability of administrative costs, the quality of life and environmental load, and so on.

Development of Land Monitoring Technology for Disaster Mitigation by Advanced Image Processing Systems (FY2007-2009)

In this project, we contributed to "Development of Technology for Planning to Mitigate the Damages Caused by City Fire." To reduce a physical damage and human casualties, we developed the overall techniques for estimating a damage of city fire caused by an earthquake. This techniques were composed from three elements as follows;
  1. Advanced city fire simulation,
  2. Visualizing methods of city fire,
  3. Generating/Management methods of building/city spatial data.

Research on Integrating and Making the most of Various Kinds of Information about Emergency Evacuation Sites (FY2008-2010)

The purpose of this research is to develop the system that examines the arrangement of the emergency evacuation sites. In this system, we can manage and use needful information totally by using GIS to examine the emergency evacuation sites and grasp the evacuation difficulty district and population.

Research on Desirable Environment Formed by Buildings in Urbanized Society (FY2004-2006)

In this research, we analyzed the relation between the shape or structure of buildings and the performance of environments around them, such as daylighting, ventilation, visual perception, fire-safety, by simulation or experiment, and examined the performance standard of environments formed by the height and bulk controls of Building Standard Law.

Research on a Evaluation of Disaster Prevention Function of City Park (FY2004-2006)

The city park is important facilities on the disaster prevention of the city that comes in the shelter ground and the rescue base at the disaster. It is necessary to build the disaster prevention parks newly, and to strengthen the disaster prevention function of existing parks. In this research, the effect of the disaster prevention facilities was economically evaluated using Conjoint Analysis.

Development of Disaster Prevention Assessment and Countermeasure Technologies for City Planning (FY2008-2012)

The experience of Hanshin-Awaji Great Earthquake of 1995 reminded the importance of efforts to enhance safety fo built-up areas in community scale, besides provisions of fire blocking belts in city scale. In addition, necessity of inhabitant's participation to community-based improvement and provision of disaster mitigation measures at normal times was revealed, and development of techonogies to support these activites were required.

In this project, we developed the techniques for improving disaster mitigation performances of districts against earthquakes:
  1. Methods (including sumulation technology) of prediction and evaluation on the spread of earthquake fires, activities in emergent situations, and blocks of arterial roads,
  2. Exploitations of district facilities for disaster mitigation,
  3. Methods of creating consensus for town planning, and so on.

Estimation of Human Damages Caused by City Fire after an Earthquake considering District's Facilities in Densely Built-up Areas (FY2001-2003)

An earthquake will claim lives and destroy properties in Japanese densely built-up districts. So it is necessary for us to estimate human damages caused by an earthquake of city and district for improvement. In this study, we tried to develop evacuation simulation based on multi-agent system to estimate casualties caused by an earthquake and city fire, and also we developed effective countermeasures to reduce damages caused by city fire.

Study on Effective Creation and Sustainable Management of Green Spaces in Urban Area (FY2001-2003)

This study aims at contribution to establishment of the technology for effective creation and sustainable management of the green spaces in urban area with the various functions, such as disaster reduction, improvement of environment, organization of landscape, health promotion of residents. Therefore the technique for density control of woodlot in the green spaces is examined.
