A road is one of the most important infrastructures indispensable for our daily lives and our social and economic activities. Japan, where it is predicted that one person in four will be 65 or older by 2015, will soon become a full-fledged aged society with a low birth rate. Providing living environments where people can live safely and free from worry is becoming an increasingly important issue for a mature society with a low birth rate and aging population that emphasizes its members' welfare.
