Summary 1/1 scale test structures of sand bag were constructed on the experimental yard, and tensile forces on the surface geotextiles were measured. Observed circumferential tensile forces were well coincided with the result of numerically calculated tension. However, 6 times of tension was observed on the upper part of the sand bag when inner sand was not uniformly filled in the bag. The degree of increase in tensile forces was more rapid for sand stuffed bag than those for gravel stuffed bag when the tip of the sand bag was deformed by uplifting force. These results suggested that geosynthetics material should be designed to hold more than 6 time strength. The response of surface tension to the wave force could be differ between inner materials.
