Summary In order to consistently and economically implement environmental measures for roadways, it is necessary to estimate the noise generated by vehicles under various traffic conditions. The A-weighted sound power level (LWA ) generated by the low emission vehicles and the heavy tractor-trailers had been measured at the test track and the highways, verifications of estimated acoustic noise considering the trailer ratios, and a prediction of road traffic noise reduction by reducing vehicles noise reduction was done in fiscal 2008 and 2009. The measurements of the LWA of vehicles at the highways, the inquiry about the technical knowledge of noise barriers, the append inquiry about the road traffic noise abatement measures had been done in fiscal 2010. The validation of continuous usage of the LWA values in the 1999 document to estimate road traffic noise is confirmed. Furthermore, the technical knowledge of the various road traffic noise abatement measures had been put together.
