Summary Notifying drivers of the existence of pedestrians using ITS is effective to prevent pedestrian accidents that account for about 35% of all traffic accident fatalities. This paper presents several ITS services that increase pedestrian safety and discusses the technical issues in detecting pedestrians and providing safety information to drivers. It also investigates the applicability of the proposed service based on the observed data.
