| Summary | Fail safe structural systems using uplift mechanisms are proposed to prevent buildings from suffering heavy seismic damage. To realize uplift mechanisms, the base plates which can yield in the uplift direction are adopted. Seismic response behavior and energy dissipation mechanism of the proposed systems are investigated analytically and experimentally. |
