| Summary | To clarify the applicability of E.coli as a new microbial indicator to evaluation of operation of wastewater treatment system, we measured concentrations of E.coli and total coliform of a spot sample in 37 sewage treatment plants 2 times a year and daily variations of E.coli and total coliform in 3 sewage treatment plants 2 to 4 times a year. Seasonal variations of E.coli in influents and effluents were smaller than those of total coliform. Removal rates of E.coli in some wastewater treatment plants were similar to those of total coliform. |
